Remembering Actor Park Gyu-chae: Two Years Since His Passing

It has been two years since the passing of actor Park Gyu-chae, known for his remarkable roles in historical dramas such as 전원일기 (The Country Diary) and 수사반장 (Investigation Team). He passed away on July 1, 2023, at 1:05 PM, at the age of 84, after undergoing treatment for pneumonia.

Born in 1938, Park Gyu-chae attended Korea University, where he joined the university's drama club and began honing his acting skills in productions like 햄릿 (Hamlet) and 안티고네 (Antigone). He joined the National Theater Company in 1957 and made his debut as a KBS talent in 1961.

Park gained fame for his portrayal of Lee Gi-bung in the 1981 series 제1공화국 (The First Republic), and he became a prominent figure in the Republic series and the 조선왕조 오백년 (Five Hundred Years of Joseon Dynasty) series. He also lent his voice to characters in foreign dramas like 아들과 딸들 (Sons and Daughters) and the animated film 번개아텀 (Lightning Atom).

In addition to his notable roles in 수사반장 (Investigation Team) and 전원일기 (The Country Diary), he appeared in various other series including 야망 25시 (Ambition 25), 억새풀 (Reeds), 사랑과 야망 (Love and Ambition), and 3김시대 (The Era of Three Kims).

His later works included the drama 연개소문 (Yeon Gaesomun) in 2007, the film 소수의견 (Minority Opinion) in 2015, and the 2016 film 죽여주는 여자 (The Accidental Detective).
