Irene of Red Velvet has unveiled her new charm as a solo artist with the release of her first mini-album, 'Like A Flower' (라이크 어 플라워), on November 26 at 6 PM KST. The album features all tracks along with the music video for the title song, 'Like A Flower'.
After debuting with Red Velvet in 2014, Irene is stepping into her solo career a decade later, showcasing her musical talents honed through her work with the group and the sub-unit Red Velvet - Irene & Seulgi.
The mini-album 'Like A Flower' encapsulates Irene's commitment and sincerity as she embarks on this new journey as a solo artist. It features a diverse range of genres, including pop-based dance, ballads, R&B, band, and acoustic styles, highlighting her multifaceted musical identity.
Notable contributors to the album include hitmaker KENZIE (켄지), indie duo Sweden Laundry (스웨덴세탁소), band Lucy's Jo Won-sang (조원상), and performance director Shim Jae-won (심재원), all of whom have enhanced the album's quality.
The title track 'Like A Flower' is a vibrant pop dance song characterized by bright, upbeat Afro rhythms combined with soft, dreamy sounds. The contrasting wistful and addictive melody creates a unique charm. The lyrics convey a message of facing life with courage, akin to a flower blossoming with vitality, culminating in the uplifting hook, "I’m alright," which is beautifully complemented by layers of piano and synth sounds in the latter part of the song.
The lyrics include:
"I’m growing like a flower / Unlocking superpowers / I’m singing in the shower / 피어오르는 Happiness / It’s more than just a visual / 더 다정해질 용기 / 날 감싸오는 나 / I’m gon’ be alright".
