Rapper Sentenced to Two Years in Prison for Marijuana Charges
A 33-year-old rapper, referred to as A, has been sentenced to two years in prison for violating drug laws related to marijuana. The Incheon District Court's Criminal Division 15, presided over by Judge Kim Jeong-heon, announced the ruling on June 10, 2025.
According to court documents, A was approached by an individual named B in early October of last year, who requested A to procure marijuana. A then contacted a drug supplier via a mobile messaging app and agreed to purchase 20 grams of marijuana for 3 million won. On October 14, at approximately 7:52 PM, A received the cash from B in a car near a hotel in Yongsan, Seoul, and subsequently moved to a building in Gangnam as directed by the supplier. A entered the men's restroom of the building, handed an envelope of cash to a courier next to a toilet stall, and received the marijuana before returning to the hotel vicinity to deliver it to B.
Additionally, on October 21, around 9 PM, A is accused of purchasing 10 liquid marijuana cartridges for 1.6 million won at a music studio located in the basement of a building in Songpa, where he also smoked the substance. It was reported that A continued to use marijuana in November of the same year, both at the music studio and on the streets.
This incident occurred after A had previously been sentenced to one year in prison for drug-related offenses in August 2023 and committed the new offenses during his probation period.
The court emphasized the serious societal impact of drug-related crimes, noting that they can lead to addiction and other criminal activities. The judge acknowledged that A has shown remorse and is committed to quitting drugs, taking into account the motivations and circumstances surrounding the offenses when determining the sentence.
