Rapper San E (산이) has been handed over to the prosecution five months after being charged with special assault against a bystander. According to the Mapo Police Station in Seoul, San E was sent to the prosecution without detention on January 10, 2025, on charges of special injury.
The incident occurred on July 28, 2024, when San E allegedly assaulted a bystander, referred to as B, at the entrance of a park in Mapo-gu, Seoul. Reports indicate that San E confronted B about properly handling a bicycle and subsequently used his mobile phone to strike B, resulting in injuries near B's eye and damage to some teeth. San E's father, referred to as A, is also accused of assaulting B and a friend of B.
After the police received the report, they conducted a preliminary investigation and released both San E and the victim. Following this, the police summoned San E for questioning and, upon finding sufficient evidence, formally charged him in August 2024. It was also reported that B was charged with mutual assault.
Although the initial reports did not name the rapper, speculation among netizens quickly pointed to San E. Fans took to social media to demand explanations, but both San E and his agency remained silent.
Three weeks after the news broke, San E finally issued a statement through his law firm, expressing his desire to apologize directly to the victim. He stated, "I regret having to convey my apologies through a statement, but I wish to meet the victim in person to seek forgiveness. I am sorry to those I have disappointed. Please reprimand me for my mistakes."
Additionally, attorney Yang Tae-jung from the law firm Gwangya stated that they would fully cooperate with the investigation and strive to apologize to the victim as soon as possible while working towards restitution.
