Rapper B-Free Sentenced to Prison for Assaulting Apartment Resident
Rapper B-Free (39, real name Choi Seong-ho) has been sentenced to 1 year and 4 months in prison for assaulting a resident of his apartment complex, resulting in visual impairment. The Seoul Central District Court's Criminal Division 27, presided over by Judge Woo In-seong, announced the ruling on July 15, 2025.
The incident occurred on June 28, 2024, when B-Free allegedly punched a resident, causing them to fall to the ground. On the day of the incident, B-Free was reportedly involved in a dispute with a security guard regarding a barrier gate at the apartment entrance, during which he honked his motorcycle horn and shouted profanities.
When a resident living on the first floor complained about the noise, B-Free shouted for them to come outside and subsequently assaulted them. The victim suffered facial lacerations, a triangular fracture, and an 8-week recovery period due to traumatic optic neuropathy, leading to visual impairment.
The court noted B-Free's prior criminal record of six offenses, stating that this increased the severity of the case. However, it also considered his partial acknowledgment of wrongdoing and his commitment to refrain from violence in the future, as expressed in the lyrics of his song "Magic Hand". Both the prosecution and B-Free's legal team have filed appeals against the ruling.
