Radio Host Ahn Young-mi Faces Legal Sanction for On-Air Profanity

Ahn Young-mi, the host of the radio show 'Two O'Clock Date with Ahn Young-mi' (두시의 데이트 안영미입니다), has come under fire for using profanity during a live broadcast, leading to a legal sanction. On March 31, the Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC) held a meeting and decided to issue a formal warning to the program.

This incident dates back to October of last year when Ahn unexpectedly used a curse word while discussing fan service with a guest on MBC FM4U's 'Two O'Clock Date.' She remarked, "After fulfilling fans' requests, do you turn around and say 'f***'?" which left the guest visibly shocked.

Realizing her mistake, Ahn attempted to clarify by saying, "I meant 'shoe, shoe,'" while the guest, Sunwoo from THE BOYZ, tried to diffuse the situation by adding, "If you ask me to tie my shoelaces, I would turn around and do it." However, listeners who tuned in live criticized Ahn's inappropriate language.

The following day, Ahn addressed the issue on air, apologizing for her choice of words and expressing her intention to use more appropriate language in the future.

During the KCSC meeting, MBC acknowledged the severity of the mistake, emphasizing the need to remind the host not to prioritize humor at the expense of professionalism. They also mentioned that they are considering measures such as segment cancellation or adjustments if similar incidents occur again.

The KCSC pointed out that the production team should have recognized the profanity during the live broadcast and noted that the lack of an immediate apology at the end of the program was inadequate. They deemed the host's two-year suspension from appearances as a necessary but insufficient response, leading to the formal warning.
