Psy Addresses Villa Seizure Due to Unpaid Fines

Psy (싸이), the renowned singer whose real name is Park Jae-sang, has clarified reports regarding the temporary seizure of his luxury villa in Hannam-dong, Seoul, due to unpaid fines related to building code violations.
On November 26, it was reported that Psy had violated construction laws by making unauthorized changes and expansions to his villa, The House, located in the upscale UN Village of Hannam-dong, which he purchased in September 2008. The Yongsan District Office had issued a corrective order after two instances of violations, and when Psy failed to comply, he was subjected to a fine that went unpaid for over a year. Consequently, the district office seized the property in May. However, the seizure was lifted after Psy paid the fine on October 28.
Psy's agency, P Nation, stated that when he moved into The House in 2007, he received a brand new home from the builder and has lived there for over 17 years without making any changes or expansions. However, they acknowledged that a complaint led to the discovery of illegal expansions made during the initial construction.
Following this revelation, Psy, along with other residents of the villa, coordinated with the Yongsan District Office and is currently preparing to rectify the illegal modifications with the help of a construction company. Regarding the unpaid fines, the agency explained that the delay in payment was due to a late review of the notices, but confirmed that the full amount has now been settled.
