Psy Addresses Luxury Villa Seizure: 'I Will Rectify Illegal Extensions'

On November 26, 2024, singer Psy (싸이) spoke out regarding reports of his luxury villa being seized. His agency, P Nation (피네이션), clarified that Psy purchased a brand new home from the builder in 2007 and has lived there for over 17 years without making any changes or extensions to the property.

Earlier reports indicated that Psy had illegally altered and expanded parts of the villa he bought for approximately 2.2 billion KRW in September 2008, violating construction laws. According to these reports, Psy failed to comply with a corrective order for the illegal construction, resulting in a fine that he did not pay for over a year. Consequently, his property was seized by the Yongsan District Office in May. Although he paid the fine last month, the corrective measures have yet to be implemented.

In response, Psy's team acknowledged that they became aware of the illegal extensions during the initial construction after receiving complaints. Following this, Psy coordinated with other residents of the villa and the Yongsan District Office to hire a construction company to rectify the illegal modifications. They emphasized that the delay in paying the fine was due to a late notice, and confirmed that the full amount has now been settled.
