Prosecutors Raid Changwon City Hall Over Allegations of Political Interference

On November 29, 2024, it was confirmed that prosecutors are conducting a search of Changwon City Hall in connection with allegations involving political broker 명태균 (Myung Tae-kyun) and his purported interference in the selection process for the Changwon National Industrial Complex.

According to reports, prosecutors began their investigation around 10 AM, sending officials to the Audit Office and the Strategic Industry Division of Changwon City Hall to collect relevant documents. The Strategic Industry Division is responsible for overseeing projects related to the selection of new national industrial complexes in Changwon.

Myung is accused of having intervened in the process that led to Changwon being designated as a new national industrial complex in March 2023. Allegations suggest that he informed acquaintances about the site selection in advance, enabling them to purchase land in the area. It is also claimed that Myung attended meetings with city officials, gaining detailed knowledge of the selection process. Earlier this month, prosecutors summoned three Changwon city officials for questioning regarding this matter.

Additionally, prosecutors are currently interrogating Myung, having summoned him for questioning at 10 AM today.
