President Lee Jae-myung's Son Ties the Knot in Private Ceremony

On June 14, 2025, a private wedding ceremony for Lee Dong-ho, the son of President Lee Jae-myung, took place in a discreet location in Seoul. Initially described by the presidential office as a family event, the ceremony saw the attendance of all members of the Democratic Party of Korea, along with numerous officials from the ruling party.

The wedding commenced at 5 PM at a venue near downtown Seoul. Security personnel and police were deployed around the area from early in the day, and staff from the presidential office monitored the surroundings. Guests had their invitations and identities meticulously checked at the entrance, and photography inside the venue was reportedly prohibited.

The presidential office had previously stated that the event would be a family gathering attended by the president, his wife, and close relatives, and that the bringing of floral tributes was not allowed. However, the presence of all Democratic Party lawmakers and several ruling party officials contradicted this initial claim.

Details from the closed ceremony emerged through attendees. Former Democratic Party lawmaker Park Kyung-mi shared on Facebook that it was touching to see the president and his son, who have endured difficult times together, as well as the heartfelt words exchanged between the father and son-in-law.

Another lawmaker, Park Hong-keun, noted that President Lee appeared emotional while offering blessings to the newlyweds, struggling to find his words as he expressed his well-wishes. He described the family as busy comforting each other and wiping away tears, reflecting on their past hardships.

Interestingly, the president also invited friends from his childhood, including those from the Orient Watch Factory where he worked as a young boy. Lawmaker Jeong Cheong-rae posted a photo on Facebook with these friends, highlighting their reunion at the wedding venue.
