The positive assessment of President Lee was particularly strong among supporters of the Democratic Party (민주당), with 90% of progressive respondents and 83% of those in their 40s expressing approval. Among centrist voters, 68% rated his performance positively. Gallup noted that this trend has been consistent over the past four weeks.

In terms of party support, the Democratic Party leads with 46%, followed by the People Power Party (국민의힘) at 19%. Other parties included the Reform Party (개혁신당) at 4%, the Justice Party (조국혁신당) at 3%, and the Progressive Party (진보당) at 1%. Additionally, 26% of respondents identified as non-partisan (무당).

When asked who would be the best candidate for the upcoming Democratic Party leadership election, 30% favored Jeong Cheong-rae (정청래), while 29% preferred Park Chan-dae (박찬대). Among Democratic Party supporters, 47% chose Jeong Cheong-rae, and 34% selected Park Chan-dae.

The survey was conducted using randomly selected virtual phone numbers provided by the three major mobile carriers, with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. Yang Hyun-suk Accepts Supreme Court Ruling with Regret

On July 17, 2025, Gwangju and Jeonnam experienced heavy rainfall exceeding 300mm within a single day, leading to significant flooding and prompting evacuation orders for residents near rivers. Severe Rainfall Causes Flooding in Gwangju and Jeonnam

Yang Hyun-suk, the chief producer of YG Entertainment, was confirmed guilty by the Supreme Court on July 18, 2025, for coercing a whistleblower in a drug investigation involving a member of his agency's idol group, iKON. The court sentenced him to six months in prison, suspended for one year. 

The Supreme Court's ruling upheld a previous decision by the appellate court, which found Yang guilty of violating laws against specific crimes, including coercive threats and forced meetings. Yang was accused of pressuring a whistleblower, referred to as A, to retract statements regarding drug use allegations against former iKON member B.I (Kim Han-bin). 

In 2016, A, a trainee at YG, initially reported B.I's drug use during a police investigation. However, A later retracted the statement, leading to the closure of the police inquiry into B.I. Afterward, A reported to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission that Yang had pressured him to change his testimony, prompting a renewed police investigation. B.I was subsequently charged with drug purchase and use, receiving a sentence of three years in prison, suspended for four years. 

Investigations revealed that Yang had pressured A with statements like, 'What if B.I tests negative for drugs?' and 'If you become a singer, I can help you.' Initially, Yang was acquitted of coercive threats in the first trial, which concluded that while he had pressured A, it did not amount to threats that instilled fear. 

However, the prosecution appealed, adding charges of coercive meetings, arguing that Yang had exploited his position as the head of a major entertainment company to demand A's retraction. The appellate court ruled that while Yang was not guilty of coercive threats, he was guilty of coercive meetings, leading to the six-month prison sentence with a one-year suspension. The court noted that Yang's actions were serious given his social status and influence. 

Following the ruling, Yang expressed disappointment but stated he would accept the decision humbly and commit to his responsibilities at YG Entertainment moving forward.

On July 17, 2025, it was confirmed that the special prosecutor investigating allegations of favoritism in investments related to IMS Mobility, a company linked to Kim Geon-hee, the wife of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, has prohibited a close associate of hers from leaving the country. This individual, identified as Mr. Kim, is suspected of having profited from selling shares to companies during the investment acquisition process. 

The special prosecutor's office, located in the KT Gwanghwamun Building in Jongno, Seoul, has summoned Mr. Yoon, the head of a seafood distribution company, for questioning. The investigation centers around IMS Mobility, which began as a rental car company and received a total investment of 18.4 billion KRW (approximately $15 million) in 2023 from firms including Kakao Mobility, HS Hyosung, Daou Kiwoom Group, and Korea Securities Finance. 

The core of the allegations suggests that Mr. Kim leveraged his connection with Kim Geon-hee to attract these investments, leading companies facing ownership risks to buy shares in hopes of resolving their issues. Notably, 4.6 billion KRW of the total investment was used to purchase shares from a company called InnoVest Korea, whose owner, Mr. Yoon, is also suspected of having a close relationship with Mr. Kim. The special prosecutor is exploring the possibility that Mr. Kim may have indirectly profited through InnoVest Korea. 

Additionally, the special prosecutor has issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Kim and has initiated a manhunt, including an Interpol red notice. They have also requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to invalidate Mr. Kim's passport.
