President Lee Jae-myung Invited to G7 Summit in Canada

On June 7, it was announced by the spokesperson for the presidential office, Kang Yu-jeong, that President Lee Jae-myung has been invited to attend the upcoming G7 summit. This will mark President Lee's first appearance on the international diplomatic stage since taking office.
The G7 meeting is scheduled to take place from June 15 to 17 in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada. Although South Korea is not a member of the G7, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney mentioned last month that both South Korea and Australia could be invited. U.S. President Donald Trump is also expected to attend the summit.
Kang stated that the details regarding the timing of the invitation are sensitive and were discussed diplomatically, hence they cannot be easily disclosed. She confirmed that the invitation was accepted and that the announcement was made today.
Regarding the possibility of President Lee attending the NATO summit in the Netherlands on June 24-25, Kang mentioned that a response would be provided once the situation is more developed and prepared.
When asked about plans to send a special envoy to the U.S., Kang acknowledged that there are plans but stated that details are not ready to be disclosed yet.
Additionally, Kang revealed that the Lee Jae-myung administration intends to restore the number of journalists allowed on the presidential plane to the levels seen during the Moon Jae-in administration, which had been significantly reduced under the previous government of Yoon Suk-yeol.
