President Lee Jae-myung Delivers First Supplementary Budget Speech

On June 26, 2025, President Lee Jae-myung made his way to the National Assembly in Yeouido to deliver his first supplementary budget speech since taking office. After concluding his address, a notable moment occurred when he shook hands with Representative Kwon Seong-dong of the People Power Party and playfully tapped his arm.
Following the speech, President Lee took the opportunity to greet several opposition members as he exited the assembly hall. Kwon, who was seated in the back row, stood up to welcome the president as he approached. When President Lee extended his hand for a handshake, Kwon grasped it and initiated a conversation. In response, President Lee smiled and lightly tapped Kwon's right arm with his left hand.
Later, Kwon spoke to reporters as he left the assembly, stating, "I told the president twice that Kim Min-seok's appointment as Prime Minister should not happen, and he acknowledged it with a 'got it' and then lightly tapped me before leaving." The National Assembly's confirmation hearing for Prime Minister nominee Kim Min-seok took place on June 24-25, but the second day saw tensions between the ruling and opposition parties over document submissions, leading to a disruption of the hearing. The People Power Party is urging President Lee to withdraw Kim's nomination.
Both President Lee (class of 1982) and Representative Kwon (class of 1980) share a connection as alumni of Chung-Ang University’s law school, having studied together during their time there.
