President Lee Jae-myung Appoints Park Yong-man as Head of U.S. Special Envoy Team

President Lee Jae-myung has reportedly appointed Park Yong-man, the former chairman of Doosan Group, as the head of a special envoy team to the United States. Alongside Park, Democratic Party officials Han Jun-ho and Kim Woo-young are expected to join the delegation, which may depart as early as next week. According to sources within the ruling party, President Lee aims to leverage Park's business background to facilitate ongoing tariff negotiations between South Korea and the U.S. Park has also been mentioned as a potential candidate for the position of Prime Minister in Lee's administration. Initially, former People Power Party emergency committee chairman Kim Jong-in and Democratic Party's Han Jun-ho were considered for the envoy role, but they have since been excluded from the list. In a recent radio interview, Kim Jong-in commented on the situation, stating that he had not formally declined the offer and would go if requested, but would not insist on it otherwise.
