President Lee Jae-myung Advocates for Peaceful Coexistence with North Korea

On July 10, President Lee Jae-myung emphasized the need to restore the severed inter-Korean relations, stating that peaceful coexistence between North and South Korea is the most realistic and practical option for national security. During his first National Security Council (NSC) meeting at the Yongsan Presidential Office, he highlighted the importance of proactive measures over reactive responses in national security. He urged all relevant departments to prioritize national interests, peace, practicality, and the safety of citizens, calling for collective wisdom to ensure the safety of the public's lives. President Lee noted that instability in security could lead to economic collapse and threaten daily life. The NSC meeting, which lasted for two hours and ten minutes, discussed anticipated major security issues and response strategies for the second half of the year. Key attendees included Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Jin-ah, and other high-ranking officials from various ministries.
