Possible Cause of Taiwanese Actress Shih Hsiu-Yuan's Death Revealed

The cause of death for Taiwanese actress Shih Hsiu-Yuan (서희원), wife of popular singer Koo Jun-Yup (구준엽) from the group Clon, has been suggested to be sepsis. According to reports from Taiwanese media outlets such as United Daily News and China Times, Huang Gao-Bin, deputy director of the China Medical University Hospital, stated that Shih's death may have resulted from sepsis following complications from influenza that progressed to pneumonia.

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition caused by an abnormal response to infection, leading to organ dysfunction. Huang explained that an influenza virus infection can trigger a cytokine storm, which increases the risk of severe complications and death, potentially resulting in viral sepsis that damages the lungs and other organs.

Additionally, it has been reported that Shih had experienced two miscarriages in the past due to immune system issues. A local physician noted that Shih, with her weakened immune system, was at high risk for severe complications if infected with the flu virus.

Local reports indicate that Shih's health had been deteriorating even before her family trip to Japan, and her condition worsened upon arrival, necessitating urgent hospitalization.

On February 2, Shih passed away in a Tokyo hospital due to pneumonia caused by influenza, at the age of 48. Reports indicate that she had traveled to Japan with her family on January 29, showing symptoms of a cold and asthma on the day of departure. After being admitted to the emergency room on the third day of her illness, she succumbed to her condition.

Her family plans to conduct some funeral rites, including cremation, in Japan before returning her remains to Taiwan.
