Police Provide Protection to Controversial Educator Jeon Han-gil Amid Threats

On February 2, the Dongjak Police Station in Seoul announced that they have taken measures to protect Jeon Han-gil, a prominent educator known for his critical stance against the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol. The police provided Jeon with a smartwatch for monitoring his safety after he reported receiving multiple threatening emails on January 29. Jeon, who has been vocal about political issues on his YouTube channel '꽃보다 전한길' (More Than Flowers: Jeon Han-gil), claimed that the chaos in the country was caused by the National Election Commission. Following his controversial statements regarding election integrity, he received backlash and threats from critics. The police have registered Jeon's phone number in their emergency system to ensure that any calls for help will trigger a record of his protection request. Since January 29, Jeon has not requested further protection. On February 1, he participated in a national emergency prayer meeting organized by the Christian group Save Korea at Busan Station, where he criticized biased media coverage and described the state of emergency as a 'declaration of enlightenment' that revealed the failures of the judiciary and the Constitutional Court. Despite rainy weather, approximately 13,000 people attended the rally, according to police estimates.
