Police Launch Investigation into Alleged Comment Manipulation by Right-Wing Group Rebox School

On June 4, 2025, police initiated a forced investigation into the right-wing organization Rebox School, which has been implicated in allegations of comment manipulation. Founded in June 2017, Rebox School is a historical education group named after former presidents Lee Seung-man and Park Chung-hee, officially known as ‘대한민국역사지킴이’ (Korea History Guardians).

The Cyber Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police has placed a travel ban on Rebox School's representative, Son Hyo-sook, and is conducting searches of their offices. A dedicated investigation team of 20 members has been formed, led by the head of the Cyber Investigation Division. A police spokesperson stated, "We will thoroughly analyze the materials obtained during the search and conduct a swift and rigorous investigation into the allegations."

Previously, the online media outlet News Tapa reported that Rebox School was recruiting and operating a comment team called ‘자손군’ (Freedom Finger Brigade) under the pretext of providing certification for the after-school program ‘늘봄학교’ (Nulbom School), which cares for elementary school students until 8 PM. This team allegedly targeted presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung while promoting Kim Moon-soo, the then-presidential candidate from the People Power Party. However, the People Power Party denied any connection to Rebox School.

On May 31, prior to the presidential election, the Democratic Party of Korea filed a complaint with the police against Son and others involved in the comment manipulation, citing violations of the Public Official Election Act, including illegal electioneering, bribery, inducement, and obstruction of business.

The police plan to verify reports that programs associated with Rebox School have been distributed to ten elementary schools in the Seoul area through this search. They also announced that they are currently gathering evidence from complainants and witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.
