Police Investigate Online Abuse of Victims' Families in Jeju Air Tragedy

Authorities have launched an investigation into online posts that insult the families of victims from the Jeju Air tragedy. The police stated, "We will continuously monitor posts that mock or belittle the victims and their families, and we will respond strictly according to the law." As of December 31, the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency's Cyber Crime Investigation Unit has identified two derogatory posts targeting the bereaved families and is currently tracking down the authors. One of the offensive posts suggested that the families were 'smiling at the thought of compensation,' mocking their suffering. The police discovered these posts during their online monitoring and immediately initiated an investigation. A police official emphasized, "We will take firm action against posts that seriously damage the honor of the victims and their families, and we plan to impose strict penalties on those involved." Measures will be taken to ensure that the grieving families do not suffer further harm.
