Park Eun-bin Transforms in 'Hyperknife' at Disney Content Showcase 2024

[Singapore=Sports Chosun] Park Eun-bin's transformation is about to unfold. On November 21, 2024, at the Disney Content Showcase 2024 held at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore, Park Eun-bin, along with Seol Kyung-gu and director Kim Jung-hyun, introduced their new original series 'Hyperknife' (written by Kim Sun-hee and directed by Kim Jung-hyun). This groundbreaking medical thriller features two genius doctors, portrayed by Park Eun-bin and Seol Kyung-gu, who share a complex relationship filled with love and hatred.

In her role as a radical genius doctor, Park Eun-bin expressed her excitement, stating, "When I first read the script, I found the character's setup and the overall structure intriguing. I had always wanted to play a doctor, and what you saw in the trailer is just a glimpse of what’s to come. I was thrilled, especially to act alongside a senior like Seol Kyung-gu. I was curious about the character Se-Ok and what thoughts drive her. I believe viewers will also be eager to see the conflicts these characters face in 'Hyperknife,' and I expect it will satisfy their curiosity once they watch it. While preparing for Se-Ok, I aimed to stay in the moment and evoke emotional explosions instinctively rather than overthinking it."

Both Park Eun-bin and Seol Kyung-gu are set to make their acting debuts as doctors. Seol Kyung-gu shared, "This is my first time playing a doctor, so it feels unfamiliar. A neurosurgery professor from the university came to the set to guide us through the actions before entering the operating room, changing into scrubs, and the behaviors just before surgery. Since this is a drama and not real surgery, I felt free to adapt the character as needed. With his advice, I think we wrapped up the filming well. The most challenging scene was the first surgery I filmed. My hands are quite large, making it difficult to perform the detailed actions required while holding tweezers."

Park Eun-bin added, "I focused on realism while receiving precise coaching. We discussed the dramatic liberties needed for certain parts. Since my fingers are slender, I couldn’t use a double for many scenes, so I performed them myself. I was worried, but the professor reassured me that there’s not much difference between a trainee and me, which encouraged me to try it out and have a unique experience."

'Hyperknife' is expected to showcase a new side of both Park Eun-bin and Seol Kyung-gu. Director Kim stated, "I’m confident that once you see the performances of Park Eun-bin and Seol Kyung-gu, you will be surprised. I can assure you that you will witness a face and acting style from Park Eun-bin that you have never seen before. I felt the same way on set."

As Park Eun-bin embarks on this new stage with 'Hyperknife,' she remarked, "This is my first OTT original project. Recently, I’ve been reflecting on how meeting a project feels like a predetermined fate. I believe that to fully engage with a project, there must be a connection. This idea of fate or connection encompasses many stories, ultimately guiding me in a direction that feels destined. I’m thrilled to be working on an original project with Disney+, and it’s wonderful to have this international opportunity in Singapore. I’m also happy to meet Disney characters I love. I hope everyone watches Disney+ and 'Hyperknife.'"

Park Eun-bin particularly noted, "Understanding emotions requires a deep dive into extremes, which makes the relationship between the mentor and the mentee feel peculiar. There’s a complex intertwining of love and hatred, and I think that resonated with me. I don’t believe this drama presents clear answers regarding the causes and effects of their actions. Instead, I hope viewers can experience our emotional and psychological changes alongside us."
