Park Chun-hyu's Musical Receives High Praise from Steven Spielberg

Park Chun-hyu, the acclaimed writer of the musical 'Perhaps a Happy Ending' (어쩌면 해피엔딩), received glowing praise from renowned director Steven Spielberg. During the special 300th episode of tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block' aired on July 2, Park shared that Spielberg had watched the performance and even wrote him a letter, not via email but in traditional letter form.

Reflecting on the moment, Park revealed, 'After the Tony Awards ceremony, we had a video call. He was in Spain at the time, and he mentioned that the Korean backdrop was incredibly captivating, making him feel as if he was in a futuristic Korea. It was a tearful moment for me. I tried not to cry while we talked for about 40 minutes.'

At the 2025 Tony Awards held last month in New York, 'Perhaps a Happy Ending' won a total of six awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Scenic Design, and Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical.

When asked about a balance game question involving Spielberg and his collaborator Will, Park expressed his concerns about Will potentially leaving, saying, 'He is a genius composer and a great writer. I am grateful that he accepts my often neurotic and sensitive nature as my closest friend and partner. I am so proud of him; he is like a twin to me.'
