Park Chan-wook Supports Citizens at Impeachment Rally with Bakery Donations

On December 14, renowned filmmaker 박찬욱 (Park Chan-wook) made headlines by purchasing all the freshly baked goods from a local bakery near the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, to distribute to citizens attending an impeachment rally. The bakery staff confirmed that 박찬욱 personally handled the payment through the owner, expressing gratitude for his generous act.

During the rally, which was organized by the Korean Film Directors Guild, 박찬욱's group provided numerous bags of bread to the artists participating in the event. Some attendees shared photos on social media of the bread bags adorned with stickers reading "윤석열과 헤어질 결심" (A Decision to Break Up with Yoon Seok-yeol) and "국민이 그렇게 만만합니까?" (Do You Think the People Are That Easy?), cleverly referencing 박찬욱's film '헤어질 결심' (Decision to Leave) and its dialogue.

Previously, 박찬욱 had joined fellow filmmakers in issuing urgent statements calling for the impeachment of President 윤석열 (Yoon Seok-yeol) following a state of emergency declared on December 3. The collective statement, signed by 88 organizations and 6,388 individuals, demanded the immediate removal and impeachment of the president.

As the second impeachment vote approached, a large rally took place near the National Assembly, where 박찬욱 showed his support for the citizens participating in the event. Other celebrities, including 아이유 (IU), 소녀시대 (Girls' Generation) member 유리 (Yuri), and actress 송선미 (Song Sun-mi), also encouraged attendees through their own contributions.

The National Assembly later voted on the second impeachment motion against President 윤석열, resulting in 204 votes in favor, 85 against, 3 abstentions, and 8 invalid votes, marking a significant moment just 11 days after the emergency declaration.
