Parasite Tops New York Times' List of Best Films of the 21st Century

Bong Joon-ho's film 'Parasite' (기생충) has been named the best film of the 21st century by readers of The New York Times (NYT). On July 2, 2025, NYT announced the results of a survey in which over 200,000 readers participated, placing 'Parasite' at the top of the list.
Previously, 'Parasite' also secured the first position in a separate NYT survey conducted last month, which involved 500 prominent directors, actors, and producers. In this latest survey, Bong's earlier work 'Memories of Murder' (살인의 추억) ranked 49th, while Park Chan-wook's films 'Oldboy' (올드보이) and 'The Handmaiden' (아가씨) were placed at 40th and 67th, respectively.
The second spot was claimed by David Lynch's 'Mulholland Drive' (2001), followed by the Coen Brothers' 'No Country for Old Men' (2008) in third place. Other films rounding out the top ten include 'There Will Be Blood' (2008), 'Interstellar' (2014), 'The Dark Knight' (2008), 'Mad Max: Fury Road' (2015), 'Spirited Away' (千と千尋の神隠し, 2001), 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' (2004), and 'The Social Network' (2010).
