P Nation's First Girl Group Baby Don’t Cry Makes Their Debut

Baby Don’t Cry, the first girl group from P Nation, officially launched their career under the production of (G)I-DLE's Jeon So-yeon. The group, consisting of members Lee Hyun, Kumi, Mia, and Benny, held a showcase for their debut single 'F Girl' on June 23 at the Blue Square in Yongsan, Seoul.
During the event, the members expressed their excitement and nerves about their debut. Benny shared, "I’m so nervous and excited. It’s an honor to hold a showcase. I knew debuting wouldn’t be easy, but it feels like a dream. I’m looking forward to meeting amazing seniors and have practiced hard with gratitude."
Lee Hyun added, "When I first heard we were debuting, it didn’t feel real. Now that I’m standing here, it’s hitting me. My heart is racing."
The group’s name, Baby Don’t Cry, stands out as it conveys strength rather than fragility. Lee Hyun explained, "It represents a power to stand against the world, embodying confidence and pure charm." Benny echoed this sentiment, stating, "Initially, I found the name unusual, but now I appreciate its strong meaning."
The members highlighted their unique identity, with Lee Hyun noting, "Our 'Baby Rock' concept sets us apart. We aim to convey self-assurance and authenticity through our charming visuals." Mia expressed her desire for the group to be seen as both confident and lovable, while Kumi described their vibe as "like popping candy."
As P Nation's first girl group, they are under the spotlight, especially with Jeon So-yeon producing their music. Benny remarked, "It’s a huge honor. I’ve always admired (G)I-DLE and am excited to learn from her."
Lee Hyun recalled her first encounter with Jeon So-yeon as a trainee, where she encouraged them to perform with strength, which boosted their confidence. Mia shared how Jeon So-yeon helped her during recording sessions, providing mental support and direction.
Psy, the head of P Nation, also offered valuable advice, emphasizing the importance of genuinely enjoying the stage and energizing the audience. Benny noted, "He’s a master of the stage and encouraged us to perform without regrets. He provided us with many tips during our practice sessions."
With the pressure of being the first girl group from P Nation, Lee Hyun expressed their determination to succeed and make the company proud, viewing their debut as the beginning of that journey.
Their title track 'F Girl' features a lively guitar riff and boldly challenges rigid societal standards that judge individuals based on their appearance and numbers. Baby Don’t Cry aims to deliver a strong message about respecting oneself as they are.
Mia mentioned the catchy hook reminiscent of an ABCD game, while Lee Hyun shared her emotional anticipation for their first performance. Reflecting on their initial experience with the song, they felt honored to work with Jeon So-yeon and were thrilled by the fresh and exciting sound.
However, the group faced some controversy when a teaser for the 'F Girl' music video included scenes that some interpreted as suggestive, leading to discussions about the cherry symbol being associated with sexual objectification. P Nation issued an apology on June 22, stating that they would remove the controversial scenes from the final cut and clarified that the cherry symbol was intended to convey a positive image.
In response to questions about the pressure of expectations, Lee Hyun admitted that it would be a lie to say they felt no burden. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to perform alongside esteemed seniors and vowed to work hard to ensure their efforts are not in vain.
Mia shared a fun anecdote from the music video shoot, recalling a sudden snowfall in April that led the members to run outside to enjoy the snow together.
Looking ahead, Lee Hyun mentioned that they are in the process of preparing for their next album and hope to showcase a variety of genres that reflect their musical identity as Baby Rock. Benny expressed a desire to reveal their free-spirited and pure charm, stating that while they exude charisma on stage, they are cute girls offstage. She hopes fans will remember them for their diverse appeal.
Lee Hyun also expressed a wish to win a rookie award, emphasizing their commitment to working hard to achieve that goal and become a beloved girl group.
Baby Don’t Cry's first single 'F Girl' will be available on various music platforms starting at 6 PM on June 23.
