P Nation Addresses Controversy Over Baby DONT Cry's Debut Teaser

P Nation, the agency led by Psy, has responded to concerns regarding the sexualization of minors in the debut teaser for their new girl group, Baby DONT Cry. On June 23, the agency acknowledged the worries expressed by fans and the public about the teaser for the title track "F Girl." They issued a sincere apology to anyone who felt uncomfortable or concerned due to the video.
The teaser, released on June 20, features a scene where a member enters a store and places candy on the counter, with the candy's packaging resembling a condom, which surprises the cashier. The video also includes imagery that some viewers interpreted as suggestive, such as a yellow rug reminiscent of a sanitary pad and a scene where a red drink is spilled on the rug. This led to criticism from international K-pop fans regarding the presence of sexual undertones in a video featuring underage idols.
In response, P Nation clarified that "F Girl" conveys a message of self-acceptance, urging viewers to see and understand the members as they are, rather than through the lens of societal standards. They emphasized that the teaser's initial scene was intended to be playful and rebellious, and assured that the full music video will not contain any provocative or suggestive content.
To prevent further misunderstandings, P Nation decided to remove the controversial scenes from the final music video, stating that this decision was made to protect the members of Baby DONT Cry and to respect the opinions of their fans.
Additionally, the agency addressed concerns regarding the use of cherries as the group's symbol, which some perceived as having sexual connotations. P Nation explained that the cherry was chosen for its vibrant and strong imagery, aligning with the members' personalities, and that it has been positively associated with various global brands and content. They emphasized that negative interpretations of the cherry were never considered during the planning process.
P Nation concluded by reaffirming their commitment to the well-being of Baby DONT Cry, expressing hope that the members' hard work and dedication will shine through to their fans, allowing their dreams to flourish.
