Ongoing Harassment Allegations Surrounding Late MBC Weathercaster Oh Yoo-Anna

Five months after the tragic passing of MBC weathercaster Oh Yoo-Anna, allegations of workplace harassment continue to emerge. Oh, who had been with MBC since 2021 and gained public recognition through her appearance on 'You Quiz on the Block', passed away in September 2022. The news of her death shocked many, especially as it was only reported in December of the same year. Recently, suspicions have arisen that her death may have been linked to workplace bullying.

Reports indicate that a note expressing her experiences of workplace harassment was found on her phone, suggesting that she had informed four MBC officials about her situation prior to her death, but her concerns were allegedly ignored.

The four individuals implicated in the harassment have drawn public scrutiny, particularly Kim Ga-Young, who has remained active in broadcasting. Following public outrage, she voluntarily stepped down from her role as a guest on 'Good Morning FM' and was removed from her position as a promotional ambassador for Paju City, which she had been appointed to last year.

However, Kim Ga-Young has not left her role on 'Goal Digger' and, along with the other three individuals, continues to appear on MBC's weather forecasts. They have also closed their social media comment sections and have not issued any statements regarding the allegations.

The situation escalated further when Park Min-Young, a spokesperson for the People Power Party, criticized the Democratic Party for opposing a hearing on workplace harassment, claiming it was a 'lie' that Oh Yoo-Anna's family did not want the hearing. Park asserted that the family had not received any communication from the Democratic Party regarding the matter.

In response, the People Power Party is set to hold an urgent discussion on workplace harassment related to MBC on February 14 at 10 AM in the National Assembly's second seminar room, chaired by Professor Lee Seung-Gil, co-chair of the Korean Society of Harassment Studies. The panel will include various experts and representatives from MBC.

MBC has established an investigative committee led by external experts to uncover the truth behind Oh Yoo-Anna's death, which commenced its investigation on February 3. As the silence from the accused continues and political tensions rise, many are left wondering when justice for Oh will be served.
