ONF Returns with Healing Energy in New Album 'ONF: MY IDENTITY'
ONF has made a vibrant comeback, shedding their darker themes for a new track filled with healing energy. On February 18, a showcase was held at the Blue Square Mastercard Hall in Yongsan, Seoul, to celebrate the release of their second full album, Part 1, titled 'ONF: MY IDENTITY'.
During the event, member Hyojin expressed his excitement, stating, "It's been a while since our last comeback with 'Buy My Monster'. I'm thrilled to share new music with our fans. I often worry if our music will be well-received, but we will work hard to earn your love this time, so please keep an eye on us."
The album 'ONF: MY IDENTITY' focuses on stories that align with 'our' standards rather than the absolute criteria set by the world. The members showcase a burst of bright energy, presenting an upgraded musical spectrum along with their impeccable performance skills.
Hyojin emphasized, "The title of this album, 'Identity', allows us to clearly showcase ONF's identity. We will work hard to show those who may not know us what kind of group we are." Etion added, "Our first full album was well-received by our fandom, Fuze. Although there is pressure with the second album, I believe good music leads to good results, so I will approach this with confidence."
The title track, 'The Stranger', is a pop song characterized by its funky rhythm and impressive vocal range. The theme revolves around 'our story as dream chasers', where the members' charming tones harmoniously blend, showcasing a strong determination to forge their own path.
Seungjun described the album as filled with intense healing energy, stating, "It's been four years since our first full album in 2021, and we have prepared expanded music and performances. The title track conveys a message of hope and strength to those in darkness, encouraging them to pursue their dreams. We aim to become a unique presence based on our own standards, not the world's."
Yoo noted, "While the song sounds bright and exciting, our stage presence will reveal a more mature side of us."
Wyatt shared, "This song is meant to inspire hope for many who are chasing their dreams in unfamiliar places. As dreamers ourselves, we hope this track gives us and others the strength to continue pursuing our aspirations."
Wyatt also highlighted the unique aspects of this album, mentioning, "We collaborated closely with producer Hwang Hyun from the beginning of the process. We aimed to create a completely different style from our previous songs, and I believe our combined ideas have resulted in something special."
When asked about the shift from darker themes to a focus on hope, Seungjun explained, "We believe we are a group that radiates healing energy. During our 'Beautiful Beautiful' promotions, we felt we brought a lot of joy and energy. We want to convey hope and bright energy this time, as we are a positive idol group."
Regarding the decision to split the second full album into two parts, Hyojin stated, "We have a clear overarching theme. By dividing it into Part 1 and Part 2, we have more time to work on the music. We hope to present a more polished album in Part 2, so please look forward to it."
Seungjun elaborated on ONF's identity, saying, "Since our debut, we have maintained an identity that includes unexpected charm. The song 'The Stranger' reflects our journey to carve out our own path, showcasing our ambition to present our unique music after serving in the military together."
Etion attributed their confidence in creating good music to the unity among the members, stating, "Our journey has not been easy, but we have grown together and built trust in each other, which naturally translates into our music and performances."
Seungjun expressed his goal for this album, saying, "I want to achieve a number one spot on a public broadcast. We reached number one on 'The Show' with our last album, 'Buy My Monster', and I aim to continue progressing as an artist."
Etion hinted at their upcoming activities, stating, "Starting with today's showcase, we will be showcasing various performances on music shows. We are also discussing concert plans, so please stay tuned."
When asked about their dreams, Seungjun mentioned, "I dream of going on a world tour. I haven't had much experience performing overseas, so I want to work hard to release great music and meet many international fans."
Minkyun added, "My dream is to continue performing healthily for a long time. I admire and respect the group g.o.d, and if we can continue to make music together for a long time, that would be a dream come true."
Wyatt shared his vision for ONF's future, stating, "I don't want to set a specific end date. I want to keep going as long as we can, even until the end of our lives if possible. That's the mindset I have."
In closing, when asked about new descriptors for their music, Wyatt expressed, "There are many phrases out there, but I haven't heard 'stage masters' much. Our performance this time is really good, and I want to hear that we are a 'stage master' and that our performance is captivating."
Etion added, "There are many popular places these days, but the truly good ones often have long wait times. I hope we can be known as a 'waiting list for hit songs' place."
ONF's second full album, Part 1, 'ONF: MY IDENTITY', was released on February 18 at 6 PM.
