Oh Jung-yeon Recalls Terrifying Motorcycle Accident on Solo for You

On November 26, 2024, Oh Jung-yeon made her debut appearance on the SBS Plus variety show Solo for You (솔로라서), where she recounted a harrowing motorcycle accident she experienced.

Oh Jung-yeon, who was previously married to former basketball player Seo Jang-hoon from 2009 until their divorce in 2012, expressed her newfound freedom as a single person, stating, "I enjoy being single and want to live freely without worrying about others' opinions."

The episode highlighted her commitment to health and fitness, as she has recently taken up motorcycle racing, showcasing a surprising side of her personality. Oh Jung-yeon revealed that she officially began her career as a professional racer in April of this year.

Reflecting on her decision to start racing, she shared, "I felt like I was going through a midlife crisis in my mid-30s, and it was quite serious. I experienced burnout and spent a year and a half mostly lying in bed, feeling like I didn’t want to live anymore."

When asked about how she overcame this difficult period, Oh Jung-yeon mentioned that she recalled things she had suppressed during her college years, one of which was her desire to ride motorcycles. "I remembered that and decided to start riding bikes, and it turned out to be a great decision," she said, explaining how it helped her escape burnout.

As she began her training, Oh Jung-yeon admitted to having trauma from a fall during her first round of racing, which resulted in a fractured thumb. "I have a personality that doesn’t shy away from challenges," she noted, revealing that she has had six significant accidents. "I briefly lost consciousness during one of them and woke up with no memory of what happened, and that’s when the ambulance and safety car arrived."

Despite the risks, Oh Jung-yeon remains committed to her passion for biking. She stated, "I have a sense of pride and responsibility as an athlete, and I’ve never considered giving it up. While falling may be scary for others, I’ve already experienced it multiple times, and I believe I need to learn through practice."

She added, "I no longer ride recklessly because I realize I could die. I’ve become more cautious."

Her coach commented on her resilience, saying, "Even after a shock, she gets back to training within two weeks. Most riders would take a break after a fall, but I believe Oh Jung-yeon is destined for greatness." Oh Jung-yeon concluded with a boost of confidence, stating, "Once I overcome my trauma, I’ll feel invincible!"
