Oasis Faces Controversy Ahead of Long-Awaited Concert in Korea

The legendary British rock band Oasis, known as the 'legends of Britpop,' is set to perform in South Korea for the first time in 16 years, but member Liam Gallagher has sparked controversy by using a racially insensitive term. On July 1, Gallagher posted the phrase 'Ching chong' on his X account, a derogatory expression that mocks the accents of Chinese speakers and is often used to belittle all East Asians. When a user criticized him for using such language, Gallagher responded dismissively with 'Why?' and 'Don't care.' As backlash grew, he deleted the post and issued an apology, stating, 'I’m sorry if my previous tweet upset anyone. That was not my intention.' He added, 'You all know I love you and don’t discriminate. Peace and love.' This incident has drawn criticism from netizens in South Korea, especially as Oasis prepares for their concert on October 21 at Goyang Sports Complex, followed by performances in Tokyo on October 25 and 26. Oasis, formed in 1991, disbanded in 2009 due to conflicts between brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher but recently announced their reunion, generating significant interest as tickets sold out on the first day of sales.
