No Hong-chul Faces Life-Threatening Situation While Climbing the Himalayas

Popular broadcaster No Hong-chul recently encountered a serious crisis during his expedition in the Himalayas. In a video titled 'No Hong-chul Almost Died in the Himalayas (with Lee Si-young and Kwon Eun-bi)' released on January 23 on his YouTube channel, No Hong-chul's alarming condition was documented. Initially confident at the start of the climb, he soon found himself struggling with severe health issues.

No Hong-chul experienced sudden health deterioration, leading him to eat continuously, which resulted in an upset stomach. He even fainted and had to undergo oxygen saturation checks. The diagnosis was acute mountain sickness, a condition caused by reduced air pressure at high altitudes, with symptoms including headaches and nausea.

Exhausted and lying in bed, No Hong-chul was unable to drink hot tea. However, he was abruptly awakened by the thought of taking a shower. Despite the cold room, he was determined to wash up and appeared in front of the camera in his birthday suit.

He recounted, "This morning, I briefly lost consciousness. I was feeling unwell, kept eating, and eventually got an upset stomach. I think I was about 2.9 km from the lodge. I have no memory of it; it’s all hazy. I collapsed on the bed, and someone came to massage my whole body, constantly checking on me. I only remember someone saying there was hot water for a shower."

No Hong-chul continued, "I wanted to take a shower, but they warned me it would be a disaster. They told me not to wet my hair at all. The room was so cold that if my hair got wet, my body temperature would drop, potentially causing brain damage or even death in extreme cases. I was fully prepared to take the risk to wash up."

However, the next day, he was still unable to get out of bed. Lee Si-young expressed concern, saying, "The guide said you shouldn’t go up. They said bathing made it worse." In response, No Hong-chul explained, "I heard there was warm water, so I took a shower. But the water ran out, and I ended up showering with cold water," which shocked Lee Si-young.

Lee Si-young emphasized, "The important thing is to keep drinking warm water. We need to go to the restaurant and drink warm water," successfully managing to get No Hong-chul to the dining area.
