NewJeans Unveils New Activity Name Amid Contract Dispute

The girl group NewJeans has announced a new activity name, 'NJZ' (엔제이지), while embroiled in a contract dispute with their agency, Ador. Members Minji, Hani, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein shared the news on their official social media on February 7, stating, "We hope you look forward to the exciting journey with NJZ in 2025."
The group is set to perform as headliners at 'ComplexCon Hong Kong 2025,' taking place from March 21 to 23 at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong. Previously, on January 23, the members had invited fans to participate in a two-day poll to suggest a new activity name, which garnered over 16,000 comments in less than 50 minutes, showcasing the enthusiasm of their fandom, known as 'Bunnies.'
In response to the new name announcement, Ador expressed concern, stating that the members' attempt to engage in independent activities before receiving legal advice could constitute a serious breach of contract. The members maintain that their contract was terminated due to Ador's failure to fulfill obligations as of November 29 last year. However, Ador insists that the contract remains valid and has filed for a provisional injunction to prevent the members from engaging in activities without the agency. The case is currently being heard at the Seoul Central District Court, with the first hearing scheduled for April 3 at 11:30 AM.
In light of these developments, the members have appointed the same legal representation as former Ador CEO Min Hee-jin, signaling their intent to respond to the agency's claims.
