NewJeans Pays Tribute to Victims of Jeju Air Tragedy Amid Overseas Schedule

The K-pop group NewJeans has expressed their condolences for the victims of the recent Jeju Air tragedy while continuing with their overseas commitments. On December 30, their agency, Ador, released a statement on official social media, saying, "We extend our heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives in this airline disaster and offer sincere comfort to the grieving families."

They added, "NewJeans will participate as scheduled in TBS's '66th Japan Record Awards' and 'Countdown Japan 24/25.' This decision was made after careful consideration of the impact on the event organizers, and we feel heavy-hearted about proceeding with activities at this time. We kindly ask for the understanding of our fans."

Previously, NewJeans shared a photo on social media wearing black ribbons with the caption "In mourning," honoring the victims.

The incident occurred on December 29 at 9:07 AM when Jeju Air flight 7C2216, which was en route from Bangkok, Thailand, to Muan International Airport, attempted to land but veered off the runway and collided with a perimeter wall. Tragically, out of 181 passengers, 179 lost their lives, with only 2 survivors reported. The government has declared a national mourning period from December 29 to January 4, 2025.
