NewJeans Announces Suspension of NJZ Activities

On March 23, 2025, the members of NewJeans—Minji (민지), Hani (하니), Danielle (다니엘), Haerin (해린), and Hyein (혜인)—announced the suspension of their activities as NJZ during their performance at ComplexCon held at AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong.
At the end of their set, the group expressed, "This stage means a lot to us, and the support from all of you gives us great strength. It is with a heavy heart that we share this news. Today’s performance may be our last for a while as we respect the court's decision and have decided to halt all activities."
They continued, "This was not an easy decision, but we are determined to regroup and move forward. Please understand that this is not the end. We will definitely return, and when we do, we want to meet you with bright smiles. Thank you so much for your love and support. We will always be thinking of our fans, Bunnies, so please take care of yourselves, eat well, sleep well, and enjoy your lives."
In November of last year, the members unilaterally terminated their exclusive contract with Ador and began independent activities. They recently announced their new team name, NJZ, through a newly created social media account.
In response, Ador filed a lawsuit at the Seoul Central District Court to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract, which was upheld by the court on March 21, 2025. Following the ruling, Ador stated, "We deeply appreciate the wise judgment of the court. As we have legally confirmed our status as NewJeans' agency, we will fulfill our responsibilities in supporting the artists. We will ensure that this weekend's ComplexCon performance is conducted under the name of NewJeans, and we hope to have an honest conversation with the artists soon. We kindly ask for your warm support and encouragement for NewJeans as they grow with Ador again."
Conversely, the NewJeans members expressed their disappointment in an interview with TIME magazine, stating, "While we are disappointed with the court's ruling, we did not expect the issues in the K-pop industry to change overnight. Compared to everything we have experienced, this is just another phase in our journey. This is the reality in Korea. However, we believe that change and growth are necessary. It seems that Korea wants to make us revolutionaries."
