NewJeans' Agency Adore Files Injunction to Prevent Independent Advertising Contracts

Adore, the agency representing NewJeans, has filed for an injunction to prevent the group's members from entering into independent advertising contracts amid an ongoing contract dispute. In a press release on January 13, Adore announced that it submitted a request to the Seoul Central District Court for a 'provisional injunction to preserve agency status and prohibit the signing of advertising contracts.' This action aims to prevent NewJeans members from engaging in independent advertising activities without Adore's approval until the court issues a ruling on the validity of their exclusive contracts, which Adore filed for on December 3, 2024.
The members of NewJeans have claimed that their exclusive contracts were terminated due to Adore's failure to fulfill its obligations, starting from November 29, 2024. Adore stated that the members, who unilaterally declared the termination of their contracts, have been attempting to negotiate and sign contracts with advertisers independently. The agency emphasized that this decision was made to prevent confusion and potential harm to third parties, such as advertisers.
Adore expressed that the injunction reflects its intention to continue working with NewJeans, noting that even if a ruling later confirms the validity of the contracts, it may be too late for restoration. The agency also conveyed concerns to the court that allowing unilateral contract terminations without legal procedures could deter investment in the entertainment industry, potentially destabilizing the K-pop sector.
Adore reaffirmed its commitment to supporting NewJeans' activities, maintaining all necessary personnel and resources, and expressed a desire to communicate with the members moving forward.
