New Nature Retreat 'Surak Hyu' in Nowon District Opens Soon

The new nature retreat 'Surak Hyu' in Nowon District, Seoul, is set to officially open on July 17, and it has already garnered significant attention, with all rooms selling out just three minutes after reservations opened. According to the Nowon District Office, the project began in 2018 with the aim of creating a space for relaxation and healing within the Suraksan forest. A total investment of 23.1 billion KRW was made, including 4.3 billion KRW from the national government, 3.3 billion KRW from the city, and additional funds from special grants.

The retreat will be directly managed by the district office, excluding the restaurant and café. After a trial operation period to address any facility issues, the official opening is scheduled for July 17. During the trial phase, selected residents and local volunteers were given the opportunity to stay through events like a story contest and an LP donation event.

The popularity of Surak Hyu was evident last month when July reservations were fully booked in just over three minutes. Local cafes in Nowon have been sharing information about reservation dates and methods since last month.

Starting on the 7th of each month, 50% of the rooms will be reserved for Nowon residents, with the remaining rooms available for the general public starting on the 10th through the 'Forest Nadeul-e' website. Prices vary based on peak and off-peak seasons, as well as room types, ranging from 70,000 KRW to 250,000 KRW.

District officials also mentioned that they are nearing completion of additional facilities, including barrier-free forest paths, picnic areas by the valley, and a forest experience center for children. They stated, "Once Surak Hyu officially opens, there will be even more activities to enjoy," adding that outdoor programs such as a night playground with telescopes, forest interpretation, and traditional archery experiences are in the works.

Nowon District Mayor Oh Seung-rok emphasized the attention to detail in creating a space that surprises visitors with both the forest and the facilities, ensuring a memorable experience.
