New Holder of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Gayageum Performance Announced

On May 9, 2025, the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea announced that Jeong Ok-soon (정옥순), also known by her stage name Jeong Ye-jin (정예진), has been recognized as the holder of the national intangible cultural heritage in the field of 'Gayageum Sanjo and Byeongchang.' This marks the first selection of a holder in this category in 24 years, highlighting the significance of Gayageum performance, which combines playing the traditional string instrument with singing.
