New 'City Brand Specialty Store' Opens in Busan

On November 25, 2024, a new specialty store named Busan is good/Big Shop opened its doors in the former Busan Gwangbok-dong Post Office building located in Gwangbok-ro, Jung-gu, Busan. The Big Shop spans two floors with a total area of 174 square meters.

The first floor serves as a dynamic event space featuring pop-up stores and various activities related to the city brand, while the second floor is dedicated to selling a variety of products associated with the Busan brand, including city brand merchandise. Here, visitors can find items from 28 local businesses, such as Samjin Food's fish cakes, Momos Coffee, and the Busan is good T-shirts from Sejeong.

Currently, the first floor is hosting a pop-up store for the successful Busan startup, Slash B Slash, which specializes in content-based smartphone accessories, including phone cases. Their products feature trendy designs and over 100 brands and characters, including BTS (방탄소년단), Star Wars, Pokémon, and La Liga. Since its establishment in July 2020, the company has seen impressive growth, recording sales of 21.4 billion KRW last year and is projected to exceed 40 billion KRW this year.

To celebrate the opening of the Big Shop, the pop-up store is showcasing a unique glocalized product line called 'Mickey & Friends in Real Life Busan,' which features Disney's Mickey Mouse and friends integrated into iconic Busan landscapes, such as the Bookstore Alley in Bosu-dong and Busan Tower. This collection represents the world's first merchandise of its kind. Additionally, the store offers interactive programs like mobile AI customization experiences and personalized phone decoration activities.

Jung Dong-hyun, the Director of Design City Policy for Busan, stated, "The Big Shop will not only sell unique souvenirs for tourists but also serve as a cultural space where citizens can rediscover the value of local assets and take pride in them."
