Netflix's 'Melomovie' Promises a Heartfelt Reunion Romance

The upcoming Netflix series 'Melomovie' is set to deliver a touching and exhilarating reunion romance. The show explores the lives of uncertain youth who yearn for love and dream fulfillment, as they discover each other and inspire one another while overcoming personal traumas. These young adults, each grappling with their own deficiencies, navigate the complexities of love and ambition, offering a relatable glimpse into the realities of their lives as they pursue their romantic dreams.
Directed by Oh Chung-hwan, known for hits like Hotel Del Luna (호텔 델루나) and Startup (스타트업), and penned by writer Lee Na-eun of Our Beloved Summer (그 해 우리는), 'Melomovie' is anticipated to bring a fresh emotional depth to the romance genre. The cast, featuring Choi Woo-shik (고겸), Park Bo-young (김무비), Lee Joon-young (홍시준), and Jeon So-nee (손주아), promises to captivate audiences worldwide with their diverse portrayals of youth.
The recently released main poster showcases the four young characters enjoying a carefree and romantic summer night. As the only audience members at an outdoor screening in a front yard, their bright smiles illuminate the scene, raising questions about the struggles and pains they face in their pursuit of a melodramatic life.
The main trailer focuses on the stories of the couples: Go Kyung and Kim Movie, and Hong Si-jun and Son Joo-ah. After several confessions and a first kiss, Go Kyung mysteriously disappears, leaving Kim Movie in a state of worry and anger. Five years later, they reunite as a film critic and director, respectively, with Go Kyung even moving in next door to Kim Movie, leading to another fateful encounter.
Meanwhile, Go Kyung is troubled by Kim Movie's changed demeanor. His friend Hong Si-jun reminds him, "You were the one who disappeared without a word," prompting memories of his own past relationship with Son Joo-ah, who had supported him as an aspiring musician for seven years. Now, she approaches him with a script based on their story, asking for his help with the film's music.
The complex emotions of longing and resentment between the four characters are encapsulated in Hong Si-jun's line, "Are we done, or are we coming back together?" and Kim Movie's narration, "It doesn't make sense to be fooled twice." Go Kyung's declaration, "I want to like you again," marks the true beginning of their reunion romance.
Director Oh Chung-hwan explains that while both couples experience breakups and reunions, their journeys are portrayed differently. Go Kyung and Kim Movie's reunion is filled with the excitement of first love, while Hong Si-jun and Son Joo-ah's relationship is marked by deep love and an unresolved separation. Writer Lee Na-eun adds that the overarching theme of both couples' narratives is 'reunion,' inviting viewers to witness how they navigate their rekindled relationships.
'Melomovie' is set to sweeten Valentine's Day 2025, premiering globally on Netflix on February 14.
