Netflix is set to launch a vibrant array of new content in 2025, following a relatively quiet year in 2024, aside from hits like 'Black and White Chef' (흑백요리사) and 'Squid Game 2' (오징어게임2). The streaming giant kicked off the year with the highly anticipated series 'Severe Trauma Center' (중증외상센터) and promises a diverse lineup that includes dramas, variety shows, and films.
On February 4, 2025, Netflix hosted the 'Next on Netflix 2025 Korea' event at the Fairmont Ambassador Hotel, featuring key figures such as Kang Dong-han, VP of Korean Content, and directors from various departments including Kim Tae-won from the film division and Yoo Gi-hwan from the nonfiction sector.
Kang expressed confidence in the 2025 lineup, stating, "This year, we have curated a selection of works that cater to unique tastes and could become life-changing for viewers. I believe this is the best lineup we've ever presented in my nearly seven years at Netflix."
The event showcased upcoming films, variety shows, and series, with Kim Tae-won emphasizing the importance of genre diversity and quality in the films set to debut. He mentioned that titles like 'Revelation' (계시록), 'What This Star Needs' (이 별에 필요한), and '84 Square Meters' (84제곱미터) are among the exciting new Korean films that will be available.
In the realm of variety shows, Yoo Gi-hwan highlighted the introduction of daily shows that cater to diverse viewer preferences, alongside popular series like 'Devil's Plan' (데블스 플랜) Season 2 and 'Black and White Chef: Cooking Class War' (흑백요리사: 요리 계급 전쟁) Season 2.
Senior Director Bae Jong-byeong introduced the series lineup, which promises to explore various themes of love and life through titles like 'Will It All Come True?' (다 이루어질지니) and 'This Love Can Be Translated?' (이 사랑 통역 되나요?).
With a mix of genres and compelling narratives, Netflix aims to satisfy a wide range of viewer preferences in 2025, ensuring a rich and diverse content experience for audiences worldwide.
