Netflix Confirms Production of New Series 'Scandal' with Star-Studded Cast

Netflix has officially announced the production of its new series titled 'Scandal' (스캔들), featuring an exciting cast that includes Son Ye-jin (손예진), Ji Chang-wook (지창욱), and Nana (나나).

Set in the Joseon Dynasty, 'Scandal' follows the story of a talented woman known as 'Lady Jo' (조씨부인), who is trapped by the limitations of her time, and 'Jo Won' (조원), the era's most notorious womanizer. The series explores their daring and dangerous love wager, intertwined with the life of another woman, 'Hee-yeon' (희연).

The series is based on the 2003 film 'Scandal: A Shocking Tale of Joseon' (스캔들-조선남녀상열지사), which adapted Pierre Choderlos de Laclos' 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses' to the backdrop of the Joseon era, where love and temptation were strictly forbidden. The film, despite its adult rating, garnered 3.52 million viewers, praised for its captivating narrative and stunning visuals.

In 'Scandal', Son Ye-jin portrays 'Lady Jo', a character who, despite her exceptional abilities, faces the harsh realities of being a woman in her time. She challenges societal norms by proposing a wager of seduction to 'Jo Won', showcasing her strategic prowess.

Ji Chang-wook takes on the role of 'Jo Won', a charming man who seeks pleasure over status. Known for his versatile performances in series like 'Anarchist from Colony' (안나라수마나라) and 'Welcome to Samdalri' (웰컴투 삼달리), he plays a character who does not believe in love but is determined to win 'Lady Jo's' heart through any means necessary.

Nana plays 'Hee-yeon', a widow who struggles to maintain her fidelity while being pursued by 'Jo Won'. Her character grapples with conflicting emotions, revealing a complex inner world as she finds herself drawn to him.

The series is directed and written by Jung Ji-woo (정지우), a prominent figure in Korean cinema known for films like 'Your Eyes Tell' (유열의 음악앨범) and 'Happy End' (해피엔드). With a focus on intricate emotional dynamics and dangerous relationships, expectations are high for 'Scandal'.
