NCT's Ten Makes a Comeback with New Mini Album 'STUNNER'

NCT's Ten is set to make his much-anticipated return today, March 24, with his second mini album titled 'STUNNER'. This new release features a total of seven tracks, including both Korean and English versions of the title track 'STUNNER'. All songs will be available on various streaming platforms at 6 PM KST, alongside the music video for 'STUNNER' on the SMTOWN YouTube channel.

The title track 'STUNNER' blends groovy instrumental rhythms with synth sounds, showcasing Ten's rhythmic and delicate vocals, as well as his chic rap tones and whispers. The lyrics express a growing affection for someone with unexpected charm, while the English version emphasizes the theme of self-empowerment, adding a unique twist to the listening experience.

Additionally, Ten will kick off his first concert tour in Seoul on April 12-13, with performances planned in cities such as Bangkok, Shanghai, Osaka, Fukuoka, Tokyo, and Nagoya. With his sophisticated music and distinctive performances, Ten aims to solidify his title as an 'artistic performer'.

In a recent Q&A, Ten shared insights about his new album 'STUNNER'.

Q: It's been about a year since your first mini album 'TEN' was released in February 2024. How do you feel about this comeback?

A: After gaining a lot of experience from my first solo album, I spent the past year contemplating what I wanted to do next and what I needed to improve. While 'TEN' was an exploration of genres, 'STUNNER' feels more refined in that aspect. I hope fans who have been waiting for my new album will enjoy it.

Q: What was your main focus while preparing this album?

A: I felt that the previous title track 'Nightwalker' had a minor vibe. This time, I wanted to strike a balance between minor and major tones without being too light. I aimed to maintain my unique style while trying new things. I took on challenges like fast rap in 'BAMBOLA', singing rap in 'Sweet As Sin', and a Korean ballad with 'Butterfly', which required a lot of courage, but I believe the results are fantastic.

Q: What is the most 'STUNNER' aspect of the title track?

A: Since 'STUNNER' has both Korean and English versions, listeners can experience my diverse vocal tones in different languages. The lyrics also differ, which adds to the fun. Interestingly, 'STUNNER' was not originally intended to be the title track! Another song was initially chosen, but after listening to 'STUNNER', I felt it was more fitting as the title track, as it embodies the balance between minor and major that I wanted to achieve.

Q: Performance is a key aspect of your artistry. What are the highlights of the choreography for 'STUNNER'?

A: The choreography for 'STUNNER' is intense and hip, yet relaxed in many parts. My dance team and I put a lot of thought into the performance, continuously brainstorming and refining ideas for the movements, gestures, and overall vibe. Collaborating with others led to a better performance than I could have achieved alone.

Q: Was there a memorable moment during the album's production?

A: It took a long time to gather all the songs for this album. I listened to many demos and paid close attention to the track order, resulting in some differences from our initial discussions. I'm grateful to the A&R team for listening to my ideas and supporting my vision while also providing honest feedback for improvement. 'Butterfly' is my first complete ballad sung in Korean, and it had the longest recording time due to challenging pronunciations, but I feel I've gained a deeper understanding of Korean ballads through this experience.

Q: Which track from the album would you recommend the most?

A: I love all the songs, but I listen to 'Waves' the most. It captures the free and relaxed atmosphere of my favorite beach, making me feel calm as everything flows slowly. After recording 'Waves', I thought, 'Oh! My vocal tone sounds beautiful!' I believe fans will enjoy it too.

Q: You will start your first concert tour in Seoul on April 12-13. Can you share any spoilers about the tour?

A: I had a fan concert tour right after releasing my first solo album, and I'm excited to do the same with this new album. While I can't share too many details yet, I plan to refresh the choreography for songs performed during the fan concert and prepare stage setups and lighting that will enhance the audience's experience. You can look forward to it!

Q: What do you hope fans take away from this album?

A: Lately, I've been focusing on enjoying each day and feeling good. I hope that when fans listen to this album, it brings them joy and new emotions. I also want to create wonderful memories together during my comeback activities. And to new fans, welcome! If you come to like me through this album, I will take good care of you! (laughs)
