On June 23, actor Kim Soo-hyun (37) announced through his legal representatives, LK Law Firm, that he has filed an additional defamation lawsuit against Kim Se-yeon (49), the operator of the Garoseoro Research Institute, and the family of the late actress Kim Sae-ron. This legal action follows a press conference held by Kim Se-yeon on May 7, where he allegedly used AI-generated deep voice technology to present fabricated audio recordings. During the conference, he claimed that Kim Soo-hyun had been in a relationship with Kim Sae-ron since middle school and accused Kim Soo-hyun's team of attempting to bribe a whistleblower with 4 billion KRW to suppress evidence, even suggesting that they hired hitmen to eliminate the whistleblower when he refused. 

The law firm stated, 'The actions of Kim Se-yeon and the family of Kim Sae-ron go beyond merely spreading false information; they have also accused Kim Soo-hyun of defamation and violations of child welfare laws, which constitutes a clear act of defamation.' They further asserted that fabricating evidence is a serious crime, and using such evidence to file criminal charges is an even graver offense. 

Since March, Kim Soo-hyun and the family of Kim Sae-ron have been embroiled in a dispute regarding the timeline of their alleged relationship. The family claims that Kim Sae-ron was in a romantic relationship with Kim Soo-hyun starting in 2016 when she was just 15 years old, while Kim Soo-hyun's side contends that their relationship only began after she turned 18, specifically from the summer of 2019 to the fall of 2020. Kim Soo-hyun has publicly denied these allegations in a press conference. 

The legal battles continue, with Kim Sae-ron's family having previously filed charges against Kim Soo-hyun for violations of child welfare laws and defamation. In response, Kim Soo-hyun's team has also filed additional lawsuits against Kim Se-yeon for defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act and against Kim Sae-ron's family for the same reasons. They are also pursuing 12 billion KRW in damages.

While the introduction of mandatory retirement pensions is anticipated to increase costs for businesses, especially smaller ones, the government is also exploring ways to support these companies. For instance, if companies with fewer than 30 employees voluntarily adopt the system early, they could receive a 10% subsidy from the government for three years.

The Ministry is also considering allowing investments in venture capital for retirement pensions, which were previously restricted. This change could potentially increase the returns on retirement pensions and support the growth of venture businesses. The government plans to revise the Retirement Pension Guarantee Act by 2027 to facilitate these changes.

Furthermore, the Ministry has reported plans to allow employees to receive retirement benefits after just three months of employment, which could lead to a significant increase in costs for businesses. Critics argue that this could encourage a trend of short-term employment, undermining the original purpose of the retirement benefit system, which is to reward long-term service. The Ministry acknowledges that the legal implications and financial burdens on small businesses will need to be addressed through social dialogue and consensus.

An elderly woman in her 70s has been arrested by the Incheon Jungbu Police on charges of manslaughter after allegedly stabbing her husband, also in his 70s, to death. The incident occurred on the morning of June 23 at their villa in Jung-gu, Incheon. 

Following the incident, the woman, identified as A, contacted her son-in-law, claiming that her husband, referred to as B, had fallen and injured himself. She then left for her daughter's home. Concerned for his father-in-law's safety, the son-in-law called the police, who discovered B's lifeless body inside the home, found naked with stab wounds. 

After bringing A in for questioning, police determined there was sufficient evidence to arrest her. During the investigation, A reportedly stated that an argument ensued when her husband attempted to leave the house naked, and she could not recall the events that followed. 

Authorities have requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of death. A police spokesperson indicated that further investigations will be conducted to decide on the charges and whether to apply for an arrest warrant.

On June 24, the Special Prosecutor's team investigating allegations against Kim Geon-hee announced that they have requested the transfer of related cases from the prosecution, police, and the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials (CIO). The team plans to initiate investigations into 16 allegations, including the bribery claims involving Jeon Seong-bae, stock manipulation by Deutsche Motors, political interference by Myung Tae-kyun, and the route change of the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway.

Legal experts predict that the first focus of the investigation will be the connection between Kim Geon-hee and the Unification Church (세계평화통일가정연합). Former head of the Unification Church's World Mission Headquarters, Yoon, who is accused of delivering luxury gifts such as a diamond necklace and Chanel bags to Kim Geon-hee, has hinted at a potential 'revelation war,' suggesting that the investigation may accelerate. Additionally, an inquiry into Han Hak-ja, the leader of the Unification Church, who reportedly attempted to leave the country during the controversy, is expected to occur soon.

The Unification Church held a disciplinary committee meeting on June 20, resulting in the expulsion of Yoon and his spouse. Yoon has reportedly stated that he will take all legal actions and inform the media of his stance. During the prosecution's investigation, Yoon claimed that he acted under the direction of higher-ups when he delivered money and gifts to Jeon Seong-bae. The prosecution believes that this 'higher-up' is Jeong, the secretary to Han Hak-ja, who has been barred from leaving the country but recently received permission to travel abroad due to her husband's health issues.

With the investigation into Jeong becoming less clear, the possibility of directly questioning Han Hak-ja has increased. There are rumors that Han will soon be summoned for questioning. Han was reportedly set to travel to the U.S. with Jeong on May 13 but turned back upon discovering she was barred from leaving at Incheon International Airport.

The allegations regarding Kim Geon-hee's connection to the Unification Church emerged during the Seoul Southern District Prosecutor's Office's investigation into a fraudulent cryptocurrency scheme known as 'Queen Bee Coin.' The prosecution confirmed that Jeon Seong-bae received substantial sums from a candidate for the mayor of Yeongcheon ahead of the 2018 local elections, and evidence of Yoon's requests was found on Jeon's confiscated phone.

Yoon is believed to have delivered gifts worth approximately 60 million KRW, including a Graph diamond necklace and two Chanel bags, to Kim Geon-hee through Jeon. It was also confirmed that former presidential office official Yoo Kyung-ok exchanged two Chanel bags for three other bags and a pair of shoes at Jeon's request, although she denied any connection to Kim Geon-hee. The prosecution has yet to confirm whether the gifts were actually delivered to Kim Geon-hee.

Yoon allegedly requested support for various projects, including the development of the Mekong River in Cambodia, the establishment of the UN's Fifth Office in Korea, the acquisition of YTN, and the export of the Saemaul Undong to Africa, while delivering these gifts.

Meanwhile, the Special Prosecutor's team is bolstering its financial tracking unit. Following requests for personnel from the Korea Exchange and the Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation, they have also requested additional staff from the Financial Supervisory Service and the National Tax Service. Among the personnel from the Financial Supervisory Service are those experienced in investigating stock manipulation cases. The team is also coordinating with the prosecution to send 8-9 investigators with extensive experience in financial and securities crime investigations.
