Nam Taehyun Releases New Song 'RAIN' Amid Ongoing Legal Troubles

Singer Nam Taehyun has released his new song 'RAIN' as scheduled, despite being under police investigation for driving under the influence during his probation period for drug charges. The track was made available on various music platforms at 6 PM on May 9, 2025, and Nam participated in both the lyrics and composition of the song.
In discussing 'RAIN', Nam Taehyun shared, "What I believed to be love transformed over time into pain and confusion, leading me to lose myself. The illusion became an inescapable cycle, and at the end, I realized it was a bad fate. This song captures the cold emotions that brushed past me on a rainy day, reflecting on the remnants of past relationships and the truths I faced."
While the release of the song itself is not problematic, Nam Taehyun is currently on probation for drug use. On May 8, the Yongsan Police in Seoul announced that he is under investigation for violating traffic laws due to drunk driving.
The incident occurred on April 27 at around 4:10 AM near the Dongjak Bridge on the Gangbyeonbuk-ro highway, where he allegedly crashed into a central divider while attempting to overtake another vehicle. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, but his blood alcohol level was reportedly over 0.08%, which is above the legal limit for driving. Although the police sought an arrest warrant for Nam due to his probation status, the court denied the request.
Nam Taehyun has previously faced criticism for his actions, having already received a summary order for drunk driving. The news of his ongoing investigation during his probation period has sparked significant backlash, especially as he continues to promote his new song without apparent remorse.
In August 2022, he was charged with using methamphetamine at the home of a friend in Yongsan, Seoul, and later in December of the same year, he was accused of using meth alone while abroad. He was sentenced to one year in prison, with a two-year probation period, in January of last year. Additionally, he faced scrutiny in March 2023 for another drunk driving incident, resulting in a fine of 6 million KRW for violating traffic laws.
