Nam Taehyun Releases New Song 'RAIN' Amid Controversy Over DUI Incident

Nam Taehyun (남태현), a singer previously sentenced to probation for drug use, is facing backlash after releasing his new song 'RAIN' on May 9, despite being involved in a recent DUI incident. On April 27, at approximately 4:10 AM, he crashed into a median near Dongjak Bridge on the Gangbyeon Expressway in Seoul, with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit of 0.08%. This incident occurred during his probation period for a one-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, related to drug charges. Additionally, he had previously been fined 6 million KRW for another DUI in 2023.

Despite the controversy, Nam Taehyun released 'RAIN' at 6 PM on various music platforms. He participated in writing and composing the song, which reflects the pain and confusion of losing oneself over time in a relationship once believed to be love. He described the song as a candid exploration of the remnants of past relationships and the truths he faced.

However, public reaction has been overwhelmingly negative. Many netizens expressed their disapproval, stating, "At this point, he doesn't deserve to discuss a comeback," and "He has squandered repeated opportunities for redemption," criticizing the release of new music without taking time for self-reflection.

Following his probation for drug use, Nam Taehyun had been preparing for a comeback, but this latest DUI incident has further eroded public trust. The ongoing criticism surrounding his decision to release new music amidst such controversy has left the atmosphere around his return quite frosty.
