Nam Taehyun Faces Legal Trouble Again with Second DUI Charge

Singer Nam Taehyun (남태현), who was previously sentenced to probation for drug use, has once again disappointed the public by being involved in a second DUI incident. The Yongsan Police Station in Seoul reported on May 8 that they are investigating Nam Taehyun for violating traffic laws related to drunk driving. The incident occurred on April 27 at around 4:10 AM near the Dongjak Bridge on the Gangbyeon Expressway, where he crashed into a central divider. His blood alcohol concentration was reportedly above the legal limit of 0.08%.

This incident is not an isolated mistake but rather a repeated offense. Drunk driving poses a significant risk to public safety. In March 2023, Nam Taehyun was also caught driving under the influence in Gangnam, where he was involved in a collision with a taxi. At that time, his blood alcohol level was 0.114%, resulting in a fine of 6 million won.

Additionally, Nam Taehyun faced legal issues in 2022 for methamphetamine use, leading to a one-year prison sentence with a two-year probation in 2023. Despite these challenges, he had publicly expressed his remorse and commitment to change through broadcasts and social media, stating, "I sincerely regret my actions" and "I am determined to live a sober life." He even mentioned working on music near a rehabilitation center and taking part-time jobs to fund his album production, promising to repay his supporters with music.

However, these promises have proven to be empty. Just two days before his scheduled return to the stage at 'K-Pop Week in Hongdae,' this DUI incident highlights his irresponsibility in keeping his commitments. Yoon Hyung-bin, who had cautiously extended an invitation to Nam Taehyun, expressed disappointment, stating that he believed in Nam's sincerity to reflect on his past mistakes and lead a better life. Yet, Nam Taehyun failed to uphold that trust for even a single day.

Nam Taehyun has not only broken his promise to himself for a better life but has also left fans feeling disillusioned. Online reactions have been overwhelmingly critical, with comments such as, "At this point, his remorse seems like a performance," and "After being given a second chance, he returns with another DUI. I can no longer trust his words."
