Musical Star Jeong Seong-hwa Shares Insights on Aladdin's Korean Premiere

On December 17, acclaimed musical actor Jeong Seong-hwa, who has received praise for his role as the Genie in the Korean premiere of the musical Aladdin, appeared on MBC Standard FM's 'Women’s Era with Yang Hee-eun and Kim Il-jung.'

Responding positively to an invitation from fellow musical actor Jeong Young-joo, who served as a special DJ, Jeong Seong-hwa shared behind-the-scenes stories about the audition process, rehearsals, and performances of Aladdin. He noted that this production holds special significance as it coincides with his 20th anniversary in musical theater in 2025, especially since he also provided the voice and singing for the Genie in the Korean dubbing of the live-action film Aladdin.

He recounted the excitement of the audition scene, which included Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Casey Nicholaw, and expressed admiration for the dedication and talent of Korean actors who mastered all the choreography before the main rehearsals. The stories of international creators being impressed by the performers' skills and the intense effort put into delivering the iconic number 'Friend Like Me' captivated listeners.

Since its opening, Aladdin has received a warm reception, showcasing its success as a Broadway hit that has performed across 11 productions on four continents, attracting around 20 million viewers worldwide. The Korean cast features notable actors such as Kim Junsu, Seo Kyung-soo, and Park Kang-hyun as Aladdin; Jeong Seong-hwa, Jeong Won-young, and Kang Hong-seok as the Genie; and Lee Sung-kyung, Min Kyung-ah, and Choi Ji-hye as Jasmine, among others, totaling 37 top-tier performers.
