'Moving' as Disney's Guiding Light: Dana Walden Highlights the Value of K-Content at Disney Showcase

On November 20, 2024, Dana Walden, Co-Chairman of Walt Disney Company, underscored the significance of content from the Asia-Pacific region, particularly spotlighting the Korean Disney+ original series, '무빙' (Moving). The Disney Content Showcase - APAC 2024 took place at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore, where key figures from Disney, 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Lucasfilm, and Marvel gathered to present upcoming theatrical releases and streaming projects for 2025 and beyond.

Dana Walden, who oversees the streaming business and content branding, has been instrumental in the development of beloved series such as 'Modern Family', '24', 'Glee', 'Grey's Anatomy', 'American Idol', 'Dancing with the Stars', 'Shogun', and 'The Bear'. In her opening remarks, she expressed her delight at being in beautiful Singapore and honored to be among leading directors, storytellers, and star actors from the Asia-Pacific region. She reflected on her fortunate career working alongside Hollywood's top talents and emphasized that the results of these collaborations, like the blockbuster 'Shogun', showcase the essence of authentic storytelling.

Walden specifically praised '무빙' (Moving), stating, "This series serves as a guiding light for Disney and inspires us. It is bold and exceptional." She further noted the Asia-Pacific region's importance to Disney's growth, expressing her excitement about the unique stories and innovative storytelling that thrive there. "There is no other place in the world that excites me as much as the Asia-Pacific region. I have been deeply impressed by the world-class productions and believe this strategy embodies the vision for original content," she asserted.

Additionally, Walden expressed her desire for Walt Disney to continue nurturing its award-winning brands and franchises, stating, "We are eager to showcase everything we have prepared. I hope you all share in the anticipation for the future as we do."

The Disney Showcase in Singapore spans two days, allowing attendees to preview upcoming Disney projects. Approximately 500 media representatives, influencers, and Disney partners from 12 Asia-Pacific countries, including South Korea, Singapore, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Australia, participated in the event. Among them, over 110 media personnel from South Korea and around 60 from Japan were present.
