Mother and Son Found Dead in Daejeon Apartment After Weeks

In a tragic discovery, a mother in her 60s and her son in his 40s were found dead in their apartment in Daejeon, South Korea, over 20 days after their passing. On July 9, the Daejeon Western Police Station received a report from the apartment management office about a strange odor emanating from the unit. Upon arrival, police forcibly entered the apartment and discovered the bodies of the mother and son. The deceased were identified as a woman in her 60s and a man in his 40s.
Authorities estimate that the pair likely died around mid-June, based on the state of decomposition and analysis of nearby surveillance footage. An autopsy revealed no signs of foul play, and there were no indications of forced entry into the apartment.
Multiple bills, including notices of power and water disconnection, were found at the scene, leading police to believe that the family was experiencing severe financial difficulties. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact time and cause of death.
