Mnet's 'Boys Planet' Team Addresses Concerns Over Favoritism

During the press conference for Mnet's 'Boys Planet' held on July 16, 2025, in Guro, Seoul, Chief Producer Kim Shin-young responded to allegations of favoritism towards the CJ ENM subsidiary Wake One. Kim stated, "Supporting Wake One brings more losses than gains." Mnet, known for producing global K-pop audition shows like 'I.O.I', 'Wanna One', and 'IZ*ONE', has solidified its reputation as a leader in the audition genre with the successful launches of 'Girls Planet' and 'Boys Planet', which produced stars like Kep1er and ZEROBASEONE. This season promises to be a grand 'K-pop World Scale Debut Project', featuring an unprecedented scale and structure that has generated excitement among global fans. The show follows boys from two different planets, K Planet and C Planet, as they unite and journey towards the sun. Concerns have been raised regarding transparency and favoritism towards specific agencies linked to Wake One. In response, Kim emphasized that while Wake One is a subsidiary, many individuals are involved in the project. She assured viewers that there is no intention to artificially create narratives or highlight specific charms, as such approaches would lead to greater losses. Kim expressed her belief that the 'Planet' series will continue in the future, reinforcing their commitment to authenticity. 'Boys Planet' will premiere with 'Boys Planet K' on July 17 at 9:20 PM and 'Boys Planet C' on July 18 at the same time.
