MIAO Set to Make Waves with Their Debut EP 'My Eyes Open Wide'

On May 12, a showcase was held at the SBS Prism Tower in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, to celebrate the release of MIAO's first EP, 'My Eyes Open Wide.' The five-member girl group, consisting of members Gawon, Anna, Ella, Narin, and Suin, aims to present a unique image that reflects their identity. Gawon stated, "Our goal is to show a different side of MIAO," while Anna expressed her excitement about returning with a song they had prepared since their trainee days, filled with affection. Ella added, "We will showcase our potential through various activities."

Narin shared her enthusiasm for the new challenges they faced during this comeback, saying, "We discovered new aspects of ourselves, and I believe we can show a variety of charms." Suin expressed her joy in being able to meet fans more frequently and looks forward to their upcoming activities.

MIAO debuted in September last year and has garnered significant attention as the first girl group launched by Teddy, a former member of One Time, who has a history of success with YG Entertainment groups like 2NE1 and BLACKPINK. Anna mentioned Teddy's advice during recording and filming, saying, "He encouraged us to do our best for good results and provided us with many opportunities."

With their debut single 'MIAO' and the second single 'Toxic,' MIAO has established a distinctive musical style. Their pre-release single 'Hands Up' topped the latest Melon chart, South Korea's largest music streaming platform, and they also won their first trophy on Mnet's 'M Countdown,' signaling a promising start.

Narin expressed gratitude for the positive reception of their hard work, stating, "It’s meaningful to achieve first place with a song that embodies our determination to carve our own path." Gawon added, "I’m happy to present our first EP with the energy from all the love we’ve received."

'My Eyes Open Wide' showcases MIAO's perspectives and inner world, marking the beginning of their unique artistic journey. The title track 'Drop Top' is a sensuous pop song that reflects their individual views of the world, starting with a calm mood and incorporating upbeat rock elements, with Gawon contributing to the lyrics.

Gawon explained, "'Drop Top' was the first song we recorded as trainees and has been with us the longest. It embodies the essence of freedom, encouraging us to cherish and enjoy the present moment. I wrote the lyrics with my fellow members in mind."

The album features a total of six tracks, including their debut title track 'MIAO,' the confident anthem 'Body,' the pop R&B track 'Toxic,' and the delicate vocal showcase 'Lit Right Now.' Gawon shared her experience writing lyrics for 'Lit Right Now,' stating, "I was inspired by conversations with Narin, producer Teddy, and producer 24. I usually feel shy about writing in front of others, but Narin helped me take on the challenge."

Narin added, "I wanted to capture a sense of freedom and excitement, like going on a journey, in this song. I aspire to be an artist who creates the music I want to make."

MIAO will officially release 'My Eyes Open Wide' at 6 PM today, marking the start of their full-scale activities. Narin noted, "When we debuted, we had a chic and aloof image like a black cat. This time, we aimed to incorporate more diverse colors. We want to show a more vibrant charm, like a colorful cat." Gawon expressed her ambition, saying, "I want to be known as 'one of a kind.' I aspire to grow into a unique and irreplaceable artist."
